An Approach for Establishing a Traditional Knowledge Digital Library

Title: An Approach for Establishing a Traditional Knowledge Digital Library

Authors: Gupta, V K

Abstract: In September 1999, the task force on conservation
and sustainable use of medicinal

plants of the Planning Commission,
Government of India, constituted a core group for

integration and consolidation of database
on medicinal plants. As a sequel to this, after

detailed discussions among the members,
the Group assigned the responsibility of

preparing an approach paper on establishing
a national traditional knowledge digital

library (TKDL) to the author of this
paper which is based on the approach paper prepared

by him.The paper attempts to justify the need
for setting up of a national TKDL, which could

be utilized as a proof of the 'prior art'
by the examiners of patent offices, nationally and

internationally. It mainly addresses the
issues relating to the creation of TKDL at conceptual level, however, an
attempt has also been made to define the major work processes so that a
realizable implementation plan becomes available.
